Nicola New (Nicky)
Qualifications:
MSc Psychology (Distinction)
BMus(Hons), Royal College of Music
Since graduating from the Royal College of Music, Nicky has combined her solo, chamber and orchestral work with teaching and accompaniment.
She has taught all ages and abilities, from beginners to working musicians, within specialist music centres, schools, barracks and community settings as an instrumental tutor, ensemble leader, sectional coach and music co-ordinator.
Alongside being a freelance musician, Nicky has worked extensively within clinical teams caring for children and adults who have complex needs, and believes music and the creative arts should be accessible for all. As such, she has often run sensory music sessions for children with profound special needs and life-limiting conditions. She has taught music within a special school, and is also one of the teachers for The Amber Trust charity.
Nicky's recent engagements have included professional performances, recordings and accompaniment, plus adjudication for the Saffron Walden Music Festival and the Maidstone Young Musician competition.
When she is not working, Nicky likes to spend time drawing, exploring the countryside and writing short stories.
If you see her at future concerts anywhere, please do say hello.
